Why maintenance matters
Most compromised websites are not targeted personally. Automated bots scan millions of sites for outdated software, weak passwords and known vulnerabilities. Keeping software current and following basic hardening stops the vast majority of these attacks.
What I look after
- Updates: WordPress core, themes and plugins, or Laravel and its packages, applied and tested on a regular schedule.
- Backups: automated, stored off the server and tested by actually restoring them.
- Monitoring: uptime checks and alerts so problems are spotted before your customers do.
- Access: strong unique passwords, two-factor authentication, limited admin accounts and login rate limiting.
Hardening
Security headers that block clickjacking and content sniffing, HTTPS everywhere with HSTS, debug output switched off on live servers, sensitive files kept out of public reach, validated uploads and a web application firewall where appropriate. These follow widely used guidance such as the OWASP Top 10.
When something goes wrong
If a site is hacked or goes down, I diagnose the cause, restore service, remove any malicious code, close the gap and explain what happened in plain language.
Platforms
I maintain WordPress and Laravel sites, and can review custom PHP applications. Security also supports SEO: hacked sites lose rankings and trust fast.
